ICT, the Costa Rica Tourism Institute, has released statistics for arrivals and revenue from tourism in 2015. Last year, a record breaking 2,665, 608 tourists arrived in Costa Rica, bringing in over $2.8 billion USD. These figures represent an increase of 5.5% in arrivals and 9% in revenues over the previous year.
Tourism in Costa Rica has seen growth each year since 1984 with the exception of 2001 and 2009. According to ICT, arrivals from the US increased by 8%, arrivals from South America increased by 13%, and arrivals from the United Kingdom increased by an impressive 20%.
The ICT’s efforts to continually promote tourism in Costa Rica are paying off, with positive effects spilling over into many different market segments, including real estate in Costa Rica. With San Jose leading the market trends, gated communities in Costa Rica, especially in Guanacaste, are also seeing growth, much due to the increasing tourism numbers in the country.
